Entry Form Do you write? Or do you read? Do both?

DNA Memory
By
RD Larson

He slowly crept forward with his claws clinging to the edge of the log. His eyes searched the darkness for prey. Sounds of the night -- the rustle of birds settling down and the faint crackle of small rodents making bed nests -- caused him to flicker his pointed ears. His teeth instinctively chewed at nothing but the desire for sustenance. Then his gut rolled in hunger as he scented something. As the trees were cut down, the deer wander far away as the houses grew closer and more numerous. His crouch became a crawl as he inched forward with nostrils flaring to catch the tempting smell. Peering from the bushes, the young dingo eyed the child playing near the porch. An easy kill. His hunger burned him. His sunken frame barely kept him alive. Yet as he watched the child, he wavered. Some innate fear stilled his attack. A DNA memory of cave fires made him turn away in search of the goat he saw in the afternoon.

WRITER with flash BLOG

I'm sure you would love it here if you could see the sun in the trees and hear the wind swooshing through the tops. It's so perfect. I'm working on a story called "The Red Fox" which is sort of mystical and fantasy. April showers bring May flowers is the old saying and it's true. But now I have tulips yellow edged in red. Parrot tulips!
I sent off two sci-fi stories today. Wish me luck, will you, huh? Shall I call you Dear Reader? Or should I call you Drow which is word backwards? Keep reading and don't forget to go to my website

some poetry

No Redemption
By
RD Larson
He knows his fractured death,
Lies so very near indeed.
He keens to carry on, blinded
By the shadow of his bleed.
Glitter hangs in shreds
Once he stood, man-seed,
Now he crumples, falls
Curled now in fetal need
That falls to fatal curl.

Brain Dead
By
RD Larson
Death creeps closer,
Yet, he knows it not.
His friends weep,
His mother bleeds tears,
Not now, not now.
He is in a dream of
Unknown glory
And glitter,
While reality is
Fading fast away.
Those who knew
His living fire
are
Defeated by its
Quenching
target.
So yes, I've been busy but I've thought of you, readers, every day. Soon more more

WRITER with flash BLOG

Again my life takes a major change. It's hard to be a writer. Life gets in the way of writing. The thing about life is -- it's hard, no matter who you are, where you live -- if we all understood this about each other, maybe we'd be more kind to ourselves and to each other. Religion helps some people. Art and science helps some other people. Family and friends help us cope with the hard spots in life. And no matter what you think is a hard spot, there will always be another harder spot. It's one problem after another. Work is hard and so is life. But isn't it wonderful to be still alive and facing a new, brilliant beautiful springtime soon? It should make all of us just happy to know that. Enjoy each day. Try not to make stupid mistakes. Do the right thing. I guess I at the point where I do enjoy each day, try not to make stupid mistakes and to do the right thing by my fellow human and animal friends on the planet.

Did you read Wally Lamb's books She's Come Undone and This Much I know is True? They were both very different books and he's a fantastic writer. Very into his characters. He taught English and creative writing in a high school in Connecticut for 25 years. Here's an interview of him and remarks about his newest work by Mike Covello Click Here If you like to read, if you wonder how writers think, read this interview.

Some of my best friends have four legs. My dog went after another dog today. Good thing he's small. Why does he do that? Why? It make me upset. A friend passed away yesterday. I didn't know her really well. I had just got to know her when she got sick. I gave her my book. I hope at least she had a laugh at my wild childhood. I know his tongue doesn't look that attractive but he never licks anyone if he hasn't been invited. I would rather be less active and more mellow. How do people do that? I actually make up stuff to do. I envy those people who just "veg" as I can't. I can just "tree" though sometimes. :D Posted by Hello

Pope John Paul

The world will miss Pope John Paul because he had influenced religion, culture and politics. Whether you are Muslim, Christian, Jew or Buddhist, Pope John Paul’s negotiating skills opened new vistas for all people. We’re on this Earthship all together and must make it last as best we can. His vision of a world of peace and cooperation will help that goal in ways that we have not yet considered.

The passing of the Pope

This Pope for 26 years has been a religious, cultural and political power. Whether you're Muslim, Christian or Buddist or other, remember that this leader brought negotiation to a new level. We would all do well to remember that getting along together ALL over the world is the answer to many of the problems humankind faces. Don't be telling me "my way or the highway." We all need to spread our vision of what is worthwhile to us all as a group and not some tiny corner of the planet. I will miss the vision of this Pope.
